Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Whether you celebrate this Hallmark holiday or not, there really is no escaping the bombardment of hearts, flowers and cut-outs of baby cupids everywhere. There is a lot of pressure to be pretty darn romantic on February 14. In my humble opinion, some guys have it easy. Buy a teddy bear, a flower or two and some chocolate and he becomes Prince Charming. But what do you do when your partner isn’t into fluffy stuffed animals, flowers and dark chocolate? You give them bacon. Yes, Bacon. Seriously..hear me out!

Everyone knows the key to a man’s heart is bacon. Plain and simple. And if you are celebrating Valentine’s Day, chances are you are in a relationship of some sort and know the key to any success in the partnership is compromise.  What better way to win over your man’s heart (and become queen of castle I might add) than to combine any girl’s best friend – chocolate, with your man’s favourite food – bacon. Boom! It’s a match made in Valentine’s Day heaven.

This recipe is adapted from the funky Nadia G of Bitchin Kitchen. These delights are deliciously rich with a hint of salty maple flavour. It is a perfect pairing. Not to mention super cute and easy.

Heat that sweet maple bacon in a skillet over medium heat.

Cook until crisp.

Drain on paper towels or wire rack to remove the excess grease.

You want to ensure you pat dry all the grease – you don’t want soggy chocolate.

Melt the chocolate on the top of a double boiler over medium heat.

Stir often.

Remove from the heat when the chocolate is 80-percent melted and continue stirring until fully melted.

Chop dried bacon into small bits.

Stir in the bacon.

Gently fold in the Rice Krispies cereal.

Delicious!

But we’re not done yet!

Pour the mixture into silicone molds, sprinkle with fleur de del, cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Unmold and sprinkle with decorative candy hearts.

Share with your Valentine and enjoy!

Should these be refrigerated because of the bacon?

Hi Brian – yes, if you have leftovers you definitely need to refrigerate these in an air tight container. I actually made these ahead of time and put them in the freezer in a zip lock bag then in an air tight container to ensure no freezer burn would occur.
